There is a place for everyone at Cachamsi

The majority of our participants are in their 1st or 4th year of Medical School, or currently enrolled/beginning their Residency Program. That being said, we welcome all students and professionals in any health related field to register.

1st Year med students

Students finishing their first year of medical school can take advantage of their free time over summer break to strengthen their resume and professional profile. Cachamsi offers a phenomenal 3-6 Week program through which students can develop their medical Spanish skills in order to return to their medical educations and rotations prepared to work with Spanish-speaking patients.

Whenever possible, we recommend that students take opt to obtain the Medical Spanish Clinical Certification (Clinician Cultural and Linguistic Assessment CCLA) while participating in Cachamsi.

Many medical schools have Global Health courses, electives, or programs through which students can participate with Cachamsi. We highly recommend that you speak with your Program/Elective Director about Cachamsi and the opportunities that we can provide for both a global health and a medical Spanish immersion experience.

If your school does not have a global health track of nay kind, you are of course welcome to come and participate in a Cachamsi program with us independently.

3rd and 4th year med students

Students in their 3rd and 4th years of medical school often are finishing electives and searching for extracurricular developmental opportunities prior to entering their residency programs. Many schools offer a global health or international medicine elective and Cachamsi fits that mold perfectly. Whether students are seeking an international clinical experience with all of the tenants of global health, or are looking to improve their medical Spanish to care better for their patients upon beginning their residency, Cachamsi provides a holistic and developmental avenue for each focus.

Whenever possible, we recommend that students take opt to obtain the Medical Spanish Clinical Certification (Clinician Cultural and Linguistic Assessment CCLA) while participating in Cachamsi.

If your school is not offering electives of this type and you wish to pursue a Cachamsi program independently with the time you have prior to your residency, we of course welcome you as well.

Residents

Resident physicians are often offered international medicine electives/rotations as a part of their residency training. Many residency programs from around the United States have regularly sent their resident physicians to Cachamsi not only for the practice of medicine internationally, but also for the development of their physicians to better serve the Spanish-speaking patients that they regularly encounter back home in their hospital systems.

We highly recommend that resident physicians who regularly encounter Spanish-speaking patients consider a Cachamsi medical Spanish immersion program as one of their International medicine electives during their training.

Whenever possible, we recommend that residents take opt to obtain the Medical Spanish Clinical Certification (Clinician Cultural and Linguistic Assessment CCLA) while participating in Cachamsi.

Other healthcare students

The Cachamsi program is designed for ALL healthcare providers and learners and we have had the pleasure of receiving a variety of students from different backgrounds in healthcare such as nursing, physician assistant, and nurse practitioner tracks. Many of these schools provide facilitated global health concentrations and activities for their students and we highly recommend connecting with your program director about Cachamsi and what it can offer as a clinical and linguistic immersion program.

Whenever possible, we recommend that students take opt to obtain the Medical Spanish Clinical Certification (Clinician Cultural and Linguistic Assessment CCLA) while participating in Cachamsi.

Of course, if your university or institution does not have a facilitated track for global health or international healthcare, we invite you to come and participate in a Cachamsi program independently as well.

Practicing healthcare professionals

Healthcare professionals who are already practicing and serving their communities often find themselves with the need for improving their medical Spanish skills as they continue to encounter an increasing number of Spanish-speaking patients in clinical and care-based settings. We’ve had the pleasure of working with many practicing physicians, nurses, nurse practitioners, and other healthcare providers over the years. We encourage any healthcare provider looking for a professional-development experience and seeking to provide better care for their Spanish-speaking patients to participate in a Cachamsi program.

Whenever possible, we recommend that healthcare professionals take opt to obtain the Medical Spanish Clinical Certification (Clinician Cultural and Linguistic Assessment CCLA) while participating in Cachamsi.

* Although Cachamsi´s focus is on medical students and medical residents, we do take dedicated, mature and high potential premed students.  These students have impressive academic track records and strong recommendations. We ask all premed students to provide a persuasive mission statement in addition to the normal application process.
